ICC: International Certificate of Competence with Sailing Ireland PDF Print E-mail

Skipper licence as required for yacht charter and motor boat charter by yacht charter providers abroad and in Ireland

ICC Certificate Course

The International Certificate of Competence for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) for users of pleasure craft was established under resolution No. 40 of the Working Party on Inland Water Transport for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The aim of the ICC is to provide boat owners and people wishing to charter boats with an internationally recognised document certifying their competence to skipper a boat for recreational use. Sailing Ireland can work with skippers to get their ICC certificate.

The standard method of acquiring your certificate is to take a two day Preparation and Test Course. On day one you will receive training on the boat handling skills required and revision of the relevant theory. The second day comprises of a practical test of boat handling skills followed by a written theory examination. Prior study is recommended for the theory and advise will be given on the subjects and standard required. We pride ourselves on the high percentage of successful candidates having completed our courses. Note: An ICC passed on a sailing yacht will qualify you for a dual certificate covering both motor and sail. Please allow 10 working days for receipt of Licence following application request.

Additional instruction will be given as required on individual skills such as Med mooring, MOB recovery, sail trim and navigation.
